Mixed Family

With marriage comes a combining of a lot of things:

My clothes with his clothes, my furniture with his furniture, and lots of things that we will both be throwing away. But with our wedding comes another integral point in the joining of our households...

Our dogs. Specifically, my tiny terrier and his miniature horse.

Here is a look at the brothers-to-be:

Name: Panther
Origin: His name came from the gun that would have been bought with the money that his dad-to-be spent instead on purchasing him for me for Christmas.
Breed: Yorkie
Age/Weight: One and a half years, four pounds. I think when his hair is cut short, he loses about a pound in weight...
Likes: Other dogs, cheese, licking dad's face, small stuffed animals, dirt, sleeping in mom's lap, and swimming.
Dislikes: Being alone, being told "no", the hairdryer, and the brush.

Name: Brendle
Origin: His name came from the term that describes his coat colors, and yes, was misspelled on purpose. He came from a box outside Kroger, where his father was suckered into adopting him.
Breed: Bull Mastiff/Boxer mix, hence the miniature horse comment. We believe he would have been much bigger, but he has hypothyroidism, which has stunted his growth and makes it hard for him to heal.
Age/Weight: Seven years old, eighty-five pounds.
Likes: Eating anything off the counter when no one is looking (especially entire loaves of bread), tail wagging, sleeping, blocking the TV, cats/friends, and howling at ambulances.
Dislikes: Water, grass, dirt, or walking on anything besides carpet or cement, hyper dogs, an empty food bowl.

Brendle actually doesn't seem to notice Panther unless Panther is in a really hyper mood, hopping all over the place, etc. They are not particularly friends, but they do get along, with only a few bouts of jealousy when one is getting more attention than the other. I think when they are permanently living together, they will learn to be friends.

Note to Self: They are both completely spoiled, so I envision them getting together and plotting against us in the future.

They will learn to love each other and before you know it will become inseparable.

Or....

You will come home to your couch in shreds, shit in your shoes and no bread.

Interesting. My son has the same dislikes as Panther.

Panther is sooo cute! We have a welsh corgi/border collie mix (kinda funny looking). My husband refuses to go any smaller then what we have...so no Yorkies for me. :-( And I refuse to go any bigger than what we have...so I guess we are limited to corgis our whole life.

your dog doesn't like water?

HAHA! They are cute! And I think the plotting thing is natural for kids to do to parents so I guess you better be prepared for it. :) Anyway, I hope they get along and enjoy each other's company when the two of you humans aren't around. At least they can do that.

Hi MJ,

Wait. You mean it's possible for both marriage partners to keep stuff!? I am most confused as my wife was quite insistent on following the custom of throwing all the groom's stuff in the trash. Dang!

So, which one is going to be the leader? My money is on the yorkie. ;)

Panther better pray Brendle doesn't decide he's edible.

Oh great pictures - they are both adorable! Love their differences :o) Maybe Brendle actually believes Panther is a cat? My bullmastiff Bundy also eats anything off the counter.. so now my kitchen counter has never ever been so neat and empty...:o)

Gladys - I'm guessing the second.

Samsmama - LOL, that makes sense.

Kweenmama - Aw. Why nothing smaller? They are so easy when they're small. You just stick 'em in a bag or under your arm.

Franco - Brendle doesn't. They are so weird. Panther loves to get dirty and wet and everything and Brendle is a clean freak!

Teeni - Yeah, we will probably walk in on them cuddled up together asleep eventually.

Grit - No, she's right. I've already thrown away most of his stuff though. And I have had input on everything he has bought in the last five years, so he has some nice stuff...

Birdpress - Yeah, that's my guess too. Good to see you around! I haven't seen you in a while.

Cary - LOL, this is true. But I think Brendle thinks he's much smaller than he is. He still thinks he's a lap dog.

Monica - He might! My MIL has a cat that Brendle loves to play with. They even sleep on the same couch together!

Maybe you can fit Brendle with a small saddle and Panther can ride him around the room...
