Note to President Obama:

Dear President Obama,

Congratulations on your new position as the leader of the free world and President of the United States of America.

I don't have to tell you that this country is great - that it was founded by great men and women - that it has been and continues to be protected by great men and women, who bleed and die for this country we all take for granted.

I am happy to see a change in the political landscape of this country. I'm excited for the African American community, but also critical, because now there are no more excuses for failure. I'm excited that we have somewhat restored our place in the international community, but also critical, because changing the facade of a country does not change its values.

I am glad to see someone new in the White House - someone who is articulate and meditative, rather than an aggressive good-ol-boy. I am glad to see how much your family supports you, how much your wife and children love you. That is the true character of a man.

I didn't vote for you, but now that you're here, I will not hesitate to stand behind you.

To the people of this country and to the rest of the world, you are more than just the new President. You have moved us. You have made us rethink what a politician and President should be and represent. You are a symbol of progress. A symbol of respite from the nastiness, terror, and stagnation of the last decade. A symbol of the Change you so much promised during your campaign.

You will be passionately loved and passionately hated, just like every other President. But also like every other President, you have a chance to make your mark on this country and the world and move things forward toward a better, brighter future.
