O, O, it's magic! Y'knooooooow!

I've pretty much given up on doing politics around here, mostly because it's obvious you guys don't like it. My readers dropped by about 50% whenever I strolled into political territory, so I stopped trying to educate the masses, and I'm trying to stick to less depressing matters.

But I received this nice article in email today. It's from the Wall Street Journal, and it's an interesting article highlighting Obama's plans, and how they just don't make any sense at all. It sums up everything I have felt from the beginning about his campaign. Remember the old adage "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"?

Don't get me wrong, I don't feel that McCain is going to be doing much better. But I feel like McCain's ideas are a bit more realistic, even if they don't sound as good to us. Of course, McCain is doing a horrible job at campaigning, and he will surely lose this election anyway.

Most of the mess we are in now is a result of false campaign promises in the past - end-game tactics that win voters hearts, but ultimately screw them over in the future. This came from all sides, and everyone has to carry the blame equally - that includes all of us not in Washington too. Yes, you there. You took out a home loan that you knew full well you could not repay. You, sir, are here illegally and are overburdening an already crumbling healthcare system and then not paying your bills. You - you fudge your taxes and don't pay the government what you really owe them or don't even bother to file at all. You, in the back. You, ma'am, aren't really disabled, but you draw disability pay instead of working because you can get away with it.

The real question is will a real solution to our problems ever be formed, or are we doomed to another decade of finger-pointing, blame-shifting, and scape-goating? How about we all blame George Bush for everything as he leaves office, and then maybe we could get on with our lives and start fixing our country (whatever that means).

Whoever wins this next election has a hard road ahead of him. Whoever he is, after eight years, we will surely hate him. We will all switch sides for the next election, hoping that the next political messiah will care more about us than lining his pockets. It won't be true, but we'll think it is because we want and need it so badly.

I just want the election to be over, so we can move forward, get our hopes up, and be let down already.

Note to Self: Okay, there, I'm done.

This has nothing to do with Obama, but have you seen the Jim Marshall tv ad that talks about the bailout? It's hilarious...B and I have been joking about it nonstop b/c it's so "If you are for the bailout, then so am I, but if you're not, I hate it." Your post made me think of that!

Hi MJ,

If you don't want to do politics, you are quite welcome to send readers looking for something along that line to me.

Oh, and Evyl is quite correct, and I will take great joy in mocking whichever candidate gets the honor of screwing things up even more. Oh, oh, and I would also point out that this is exactly why blogging about politics is a good way to go; there's always something to mock :)

Matt - Well, I'm glad someone does.

PE - Exactly.

Merc - :D

CM - LOL. I have! I hate local election crap. Actually, I hate all election ads. They're like those obnoxious car ads with kids in them.

Grit - That's true. Politics are great fodder for humor.

SS - Thanks!

we're probably going to cancel out each others vote, but I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments--particularly that whoever wins next month has got a hard job ahead of them. They wont be able to solve it all, they'll shoulder the blame for things already in the making, etc.
Just once, Id like to have a candidate that I was excited to vote FOR. I dont think Ive ever done anything but vote AGAINST the other guy..ya know?

I'm with Vinyl... "Just once, Id like to have a candidate that I was excited to vote FOR. I dont think Ive ever done anything but vote AGAINST the other guy..ya know?"

In all honesty, I don't want either one of those yahoos in office. Not sure who I'm voting for yet, but it won't be McCain or Obama. My vote may not count for much, but at least I'll do it in good conscience.

VV and K - So true. I wish there were an election where I could honestly vote FOR someone. I'm thinking of doing a write-in...
