Presidential Posts

I’m going to try to keep this post as short as possible, although I will admit that it’s probably going to end up long-winded. You’ll get over it.

As I said before, I tend to make a lot of fun of our presidential candidates, but this race is critical for the rebuilding of our country after the retarded-ness of the last few years.

Over the next few days I am going to be covering each of the four Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates on main issues and where they stand. I’ll try not to be long-winded, and I’ll try to just give you the facts so you can make your own decisions.

There are a few things that I’m not going to discuss here, and I’ll tell you why:

Abortion – Although abortion rights is a heated issue in all political campaigns, it really has no place in presidential campaigns. Considering the precedence of court cases, I don’t see Roe v Wade being overturned anytime soon. The President has no power to dictate abortion rights, as they are left to the individual state to decide. Although I personally do not agree with abortion, it is not my place nor the government’s to dictate what a woman can do with her body. End of story. While I may disagree with a candidate’s stance on abortion, I understand that everyone has their own set of values and opinions. While they may differ from mine, and I even may find it a bit disturbing, that does not make me feel they are any less qualified to do their job.

Gun Control – As most of you know, I’m a big fan of guns. I possess and regularly carry one. I am infatuated with a man who is infatuated with the things (I think he’s up to eight now…). It’s a big part of our lives, considering his occupation (police officer). With the recent turnover by the Supreme Court of the DC gun ban, it is going to be very hard for any state to ban them. I do worry about ridiculous restrictions on guns being implemented, but really how will they enforce these? Go into every home for inspections? I just suggest you stock up on what you want now.

Civil Rights – Definitions of hate crimes and enforcement of affirmative action is left up to the states. This also includes gay rights and equal labor laws.

Drugs and Crime – This is another issue that has to be dealt with state by state. While a candidate may claim to be “tough on crime and drug offenders” or promote “real time for gun crime” or whatever slogan they may come up with, there will always be fatal flaws in the justice system. And there is nothing the President can do about it. We are stuck in a vicious cycle of rehabilitation and re-entry that hasn’t worked for decades, that coddles prisoners, and that considers drug crimes non-detainable offenses. (Please see Gun Control for my solution.)

So there you have it. I’ll be organizing posts by topic, so each candidate can be compared on the same topic. These posts are not meant to sway you in any way, and I hope I’m not wasting my time in an effort to keep you informed.

Note to Self: I got the majority of my information for the upcoming posts on OnTheIssues.org. It’s a great website that itemizes each candidates' stance on a variety of topics, including voting record.

I'm looking forward to it. For me, I realize things that I think about before voting, like abortion rights, gay rights, etc. are decided on by states and not the pres, I still factor it in because it raises important questions about personality and character to me. It's interesting to see how everyone goes about making their decisions, though.

CM - Agreed. Character certainly is a large factor when choosing someone to represent your country in the international community. But since character is harped on already in the media, I'm hoping to shed light on some actual issues lol.

Teeni - I hope so...
