I'm going to go ahead and start reviewing blogs today (see yesterday's post for more info), and as I was trying to figure out an organized way to go about this, the best way I could come up with is in the order they are listed. So pretty much in ABC order. Here we go.
---------------------------------------------------
(1) Ace of Spades HQ
What the fuss is all about: "Ace" is generally a good writer, with posts ranging from hilarious to downright immature. I have my days where I LOVE Ace, and I have my days where I HATE him. Overall though, he does a pretty good social commentary on world news, business, and testosterone induced retarded-ness - but mostly politics... I repeat myself.
Pros: Gives you a dose of relevant news with just enough humor to keep you from slitting your wrists. Plus, his reader comments are sometimes funnier than the posts.
Cons: Gay jokes and sexist remarks that will make you want to choke Ace to death with your bear hands and then kick a puppy for good measure.
(2) American Princess
What the fuss is all about: "Party politics in the Post and Prada age..." E.M. is a 25 yr old libertarian conservative who describes herself as "overeducated and overopinionated." She posts on mostly political topics, but does it in a way that makes you actually want to READ about politics.
Pros: She's a female conservative! With a brain! How many more pros do you need!
Cons: I gotta admit, sometimes I get a little bored over there. Politics should be laughed at. And although I applaud her for giving the straight truth, sometime I need a little more haha. Kind of like, you need a little sugar in the fiber cereal. You know it's good for you, but it at least shouldn't have to taste like crap.
(3) Cold Fury
What the fuss is all about: CF consist of four talented male writers (they once had a female, but she could no longer put up with them, Christiana RIP). They will blog about most anything, but lean toward the political in subject. Hopefully one day they will be brave enough to add some more estrogen to their website.
Pros: The writing is upbeat and fluid, with just the right amount of humor. You generally get the feeling they are a smart group of good ol' boys.
Cons: The posting is sporadic, with some days having an overload of information, and others having only one or a few posts. Also, their posts can lean on the long side. I usually just want to get in, get the commentary and a few laughs, and get out.
(4) Cracked
What the fuss is all about: I've lost count of the number of contributors. It's a humor website with the disclaimer:"All characters, names and places used in CRACKED fiction and semifiction [...] are fictitious and are used herein for the purposes of comment, criticism, parody, pointing out political and/or social injustice or any other purpose through which humanity is held up to the ridicule it frequently deserves." They have lists like "15 pet products we can't believe actually exist" and they challenge their readers to come up with the best captions, or "craptions" as they call them, for crazy photos.
Pros: The website always has new stuff on it. It engages readers to help in creating the insanity, and it even gives prizes out to the most creative contributors.
Cons: Some of the stuff is just stupid or downright boring. I also don't agree with pushing any political stance at all on a purely satirical site, and some of their stuff can push the limit.
---------------------------------------------------
So that's all the reviewing for this post. If I get industrious, I will do some more today. If not, then there's always tomorrow. I challenge you to check out these sites I've listed. If they aren't your thing, well hopefully there is another site listed in my sidebar that amuses you (or possibly something is wrong with you).
Note to Self: Drink more water. [/irrelevance]
