Obama Fans Forgive Me

But last night was eerily quiet around this town up until we knew the results.

After speaking with my cop this morning, I am really worried about the safety of this town. I don't want to be racist, but when African Americans are telling my cop that he's not allowed to arrest them because "Obama's the 'presdint' now," I get really scared. When he goes back to his car and finds that someone has shot at it, that makes me really nervous.

Even though it baffles me that African Americans make up a large fraction of the population in GA, and yet McCain won over two-thirds of the vote here. These people took absolutely no part in the political process, yet they are acting like it was all their hard work that put Obama in office.

I don't care that Obama won. Obama is a politician, and no matter how much he spouts hope and change, we will hate him after eight years just like every other President. And with a Democratic majority in Congress too, we have a hard road ahead of us with absolutely no checks and balances.

He can spout hope and change all he wants, but shit is shit, no matter how much you spray it with Febreeze. And no matter how much it promises not to be shitty - IT IS STILL SHIT.

I really hope I'm wrong. I really hope things do change for the better and that some good things really do get done. But for now, I'm worried about MY town and MY future and MY loved ones.

I'm not back to note to self, but I just had to get this out there.

Note to Self: Kudos and God bless.

I think many of us know that the "CHANGE" requires many years of efforts to make it happen. Obama alone can't do it; we all have to do our parts, including African American people.

Let's hope that we can make it happen and that the last night wasn't illusion, but the entrance to the new beginning of our future with hope.

Hurry back, MJ:)

This is how I felt that past 8 years when my candidate lost.

Franco - Exactly.

Maki - Perfectly said. Thanks ma'dear.

Matt - I am not upset because my candidate "lost". I didn't really care who won, and I felt an Obama election was inevitable. It is the reaction of the people, as if he is a "second coming" of sorts, as if he is so "different" from all the other politicians. Seriously, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid I won't be.

Hi Sarah,

Strange that such disorder wasn't reported on the news...

Hi MJ,

Don't worry about your cop. If he gets shot Obama can faith heal him :) Seriously, y'all should move to a smaller town in a better area. Better safe than sorry and all that.

I have found out that there are a lot of ignorant people on both sides of the racial divide. I think if people would get facts and stop being stupid, we'd all get along so much better

hmmm. color is not an issue to me. i wish this was true for the entire world. sometimes I am naive I suppose.

colbymarshall said...

I agree that color isn't an issue for me, personally...but it is for a lot of people, especially in my neck of the Southern woods

I hope he provides change too...I can't get the Pepsi machine to accept my $5 bill...

SarahM - So true. I don't care who won, that's just barbaric.

Grit - They never show that kind of thing on the news. People in our town still think we don't have gangs and drugs. Riiiiiiiight....And if I move to a town smaller than this one I'll asphyxiate from all the boredom.

Rachel - Thanks

Evyl - LOL. I haven't seen any of those. I hate most political (or religious) tees.

CM - I totally agree. Morons come in every shape, size, and color.

Megan - I wish people would learn that racism isn't worth the energy. People tend to stereotype themselves, and they don't need anyone's help...

VE - LOL. You can always make me laugh man.

Anybody who thinks there was an outsized reaction to Obama's election simply has no sense of history. The "young republican" crowd went absolutely ape-shit when Reagan won and behaved in the most shamelessly arrogant manner I've ever seen when Bush-I was elected. And then the "in your face" attitude with BOTH of W's squeaker elections his supporters were trumpeting "mandate" for weeks. Please, get some perspective.

Dan R - I never said it was any different than any other election. In fact, I blatantly describe how Obama is just like any other politician. I was only giving my perspective based on the different kind of reaction given. I don't remember, when Bush won, having anyone tell the cops that they couldn't be arrested because Bush was the President now. Please try not to paint me an idiot when I agree with you. It really reflects badly on your position.
