The Great Outdoors

The cop and I and a big group of friends get together once a year for an event we dubbed "Campfest." We find a generally lovely campground (with actual bathrooms, as requested by the ladies in the group), cook a lot of food, and enjoy some merriment and booze around the campfire each night. We also take Saturday away from our site and hike around, since we usually pick mountainous regions.

This year (this afternoon to be exact), we're headed up to the very tip of Northeast GA. I anticipate decent weather, albeit a little damp and cool, and some gorgeous scenery with all the leaves changing colors. I promise to bring back pictures for you. But for now, I'll regale you with some photos I took last time when we went to Elkmont, Tennessee ... click them to enlarge...

This one is of the beautiful mountain side as we were leaving. See me in the rearview?

This is a fast-flowing brook that was pretty close to our campsite.

Here's me and the cop in a posed shot on the side of the road. See how pretty the leaves were? You can't see the top of that mountain behind us, but we climbed it one day when we were there.

Anyway, I'm off. No blogging this weekend since there's no Internet in the great outdoors... yet...
Hope y'all have a good weekend!

Note to Self: I love the great outdoors. Except when I'm sick. Like I am now. Ugh. Woke up with a nasty sinus infection, but I called and begged my doc to call in some antibiotics. They usually do the trick pretty quickly. So hopefully with some amoxicillin, ibuprofen, and sleep in the car, I'll be fine by the time we get to the campsite.

You'll be pretty close (as the crow files) to the holler. I'll climb up on the trailer and wave :)

Hey MJ,
Have a great time.Sounds like a wonderful tradition I wouldn't mind doing myself. I love being out in the air and the mountains, hiking, sleeping under the stars - I envy your weekend. Hope the antibiotics worked.

Those pictures are great! I've never been camping myself (and would prob jump out my skin every time something went bump in the night), but it sounds like fun. Hope you feel better! Can't wait to see this year's pics :)

Have fun this weekend! You should send the pic of the brook in to be published in a calendar...I'm sure it would be accepted.

Camping with a sinus infection... you must be really into the whole camping thing! A vaguely stuffy nose would be enough to make me stay home!

Mahala - Was that you with the rooster that kept waking us up at dawn? Just so you know, I almost killed it...

Alison - Aww! Thanks!

SS - I'm not sure how envious you should be but...

WC - Oh, they worked. Two pills and a two hour nap and I was greeeaaaat.

Dorkys - I hope to have them up early this week!

Rachel - Yeah. Sometimes we have pretty good ideas, and sometimes we have very very bad ideas.

VE - Oh, I know. We went to a state park or it would have been completely unsafe.

BN - Thanks!

Teeni - I didn't even mean to get myself in that picture!

KM - Thanks for the compliment! I was pretty impressed with my picture taking ability that trip.

NGIP - I did, thanks!

K - I was, thanks!

Danielle - Well, it was either stay at home moping around with a sniffle or getting out of town. And as you well know, getting out of this little town is imperative on occasion...

PE - It was, thanks!

KPD - They did clear up, and I'm feeling much better now :)
