A little less conversation...

At one point, I had some fears as to how my Yorkie would react to an intruder. Since he was just a tiny, half-pound fuzzball, I have been teaching him not to be one of those obnoxious yippy dogs that I was always warned he would grow up to be. So now that he is a whopping three-and-a-half pound fuzzball, I was worried I had turned him away from something that could be useful to me.

Well, my fears were put to rest last night when my roommate apparently went stumbling in the dark through the living room and bumped a side table.

Panther. Went. NUTS.

He barked, jumped out of bed, barked some more... no tail-wagging, pure protective mode... and although I knew it wasn't an intruder, I didn't stop him from doing it. I knew it was his instinct to protect me, and honestly, I was a little proud he had reacted that way.

At least now I know he can alert me to anything out of the ordinary, and although his little frame is a bit useless against a burglar, he would at least warn me fast enough to make sure the guy was staring down the barrel of a .38 in short order. Or at least in enough time to greet him with a Mag-Lite as he came through the door.

Note to Self:
Been to0 long since I've been to the gun range.
(Note to Burglar: Not beware of dog, beware of owner.)

Dogs can be smart. I've trained mine to be total wusses, but they know when to be protective too.
