Blonde vs. Brunette

So, I wanted to make sure I didn't let the opportunity to write this interesting post go by. Okay, maybe it will only be interesting to me, but here goes.

For most of my life, I have been a natural or highlighted blonde, but a few months ago I got brave and dyed it brown just to see how I liked it.

The different reactions to the way my hair looked was NOTHING compared to the difference in treatment I received from people.

Immediately after becoming brunette, people talked to me more like an adult (ie. not a complete moron), my professors treated me differently, and I was generally taken more seriously at work. It was strange, however, that people didn't pay as MUCH attention to me as they did when I was blonde.

Well, this month I went back to blonde. I've gotten a lot of compliments about how much better my hair looks blonde, but I still can't shake that feeling of the stigma that comes with the hair color. I thought it was strange, but interesting nonetheless, that people actually feed into the stereotype of the "dumb blonde" even in FREAKIN' MBA CLASSES. If I weren't at least mildly smart, would I have made it into graduate school??? C'mon people.

Anyway, so I'm back to blonde, and I am realizing how much MORE attention I get. Within the first week of having my golden locks back, I was whistled at from across my apartment complex - albeit by a pervert that I could only conclude was an egotistical frat boy, but still.

Note to Self: Experiment successfully completed. Conclusion - blondes do have more fun.
