The Right to Bear Arms

Other than the hilarious thought of someone running around with overly fuzzy and clawed arms, the Second Amendment is a very serious thing.

The biggest controversy right now is the DC gun ban. The argument is whether the writers of the Constitution meant for this right to keep and bear arms to apply to every citizen, or if it was only supposed to apply to militias, police, armed forces, etc.

Some facts have to come into consideration:
A. We are not waging war on our own land anymore.
B. The original "arms" were muskets that took forever to load for each and every shot.
C. People no longer have to shoot animals to get food.

However:
A. We could still have a country try to attack us on our own soil (although it would be very ill-advised).
B. Firearms are much more damaging now, because they shoot a lot more in a lot less time.
C. People still like to shoot animals (among other things) even if they don't eat them.

Both sides have good arguments, but here's the clincher for me:
A. I like my gun.
B. I like to shoot my gun.
C. You will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

For how the argument probably went down in the Supreme Court, check out IMAO.

All I can say is that studies show there is no positive correlation between tighter gun control and lowered gun crime rates. In fact, many times it's the opposite.

A "Gun Free Zone" sign does not make someone who wants to shoot up the place think "Oh, nevermind. It's a gun free zone. I guess I will have to find somewhere else to kill people." That's like saying students on dry campuses don't sneak booze in anyway. "Gun Free" zones should be changed to "Helpless Prey" zones.

If there isn't going to be harsher penalties for gun crimes, then I have the right to defend myself. As my lover/police officer says, "I may not shoot someone coming in my house, but I will make sure they leave a puddle of pee on my doorstep as they are running away."

Here's my deal, law abiding citizens won't just go around shooting people. Non law abiding citizens will find a way to get a gun no matter what.

Personally, I think there are more important things to worry about. Like how in many places on earth, women still don't have the right to bare arms. Bad pun, I know, but still true.

Note to Self: I'm pretty sure this isn't what the forefathers meant.
